One important task after a well-conducted photo shoot is selecting the best images to present to your client. Most of the time, you want to present everything except for the pictures that have turned out truly terrible! But is the best that you prepare your chosen set of photos, and then come up with a way to help the clients pick the pictures that best work for them, and put aside the ones that could be given up. Here are some hints on how to select the best:
What Do You Need to Consider?
The first question you need to ask yourself and your client is what the photo is being used for and what the client’s expectations are. The answer to this question affects which photos you pick because the picture has to be relevant to where, why, and how it is being used. Is the purpose to interest the viewer into buying something? Or is it to attract them into attending an event? Or is it meant to reflect the owner of the photo’s professionalism and make the viewer confident enough to want to contact them for a specific type of business?
For example, if the photo is going to be used for a hairdresser’s advertisement, you want to make sure the picture is inviting while emphasizing on the person’s hair style and color and shine, and also reflect the person’s confident in what they do.
Aside from the purpose of the photo, you need to ask your client what their personal preferences are in terms of style of photography and the look of the photos and their expectations. Of course you need to discuss all this before the photo shoot as well to have a good idea of the approach and style of your photo session, but even after the photos are taken, you want to re-confirm and keep in mind your client’s taste and visions. If your client is a person of humor or if they are an artsy individual, then you’ll need to help them choose the photographs that best reflect their personality although you had this in mind as you were taking the pictures as well.
Also, there might be a type or style of photograph that your client does not like. Once you can eliminate those types of photos from the rest, the amount of images that you need to choose from will be reduced.
